What were you doing at 4 years old?
What were you doing at the age of 4?
I imagine I was running around, learning how to spell my name, enjoying the sunshine and getting into trouble. How about you?
The reason I ask is that a recent survey by the University of Oxford on the impact of Coronavirus on mental health suggests that children are experiencing higher levels of anxiety. And it's children aged four to eleven being the worst affected.
I cannot imagine facing a global pandemic at that age. I have found it difficult enough to cope with as an adult. That said, I do think there are ways to support children as we come out the other side of this awful time.
One way is to spread kindness. It has been a recurring motto throughout the past 18 months, and there's a reason for that. Kindness is something that can reach into every part of your being and help you get through each day.
That is why this year, my chosen charity is Be Kind Movement. This wonderful organisation supports children to develop their emotional intelligence skills and embrace kindness, both towards others and themselves.
I wish we lived in a world where we didn't need charities like this. Wouldn't it be amazing if young people grew up valuing themselves? How great would it be if 4 year old children didn't experience anxiety? Sadly, this is not yet the case, and until it is organisations like Be Kind Movement are doing everything they can to make a difference.
So, how can you help? Well, I will be taking part in the Be Kind Movement Facebook Auction this weekend (5-6 June). The generosity of supporters means there are some truly brilliant items up for bidding - from Elton John tickets to gorgeous children's toys - so it is going to be a great online event. Please do join the Facebook Auction Group and be a part of this fundraising event.
