Marketing must-dos for the Summer
The sun is shining (most days) and the the great British Summertime has arrived.
It's a strange year (OK, that may be a bit of an understatement!) but regardless of what's been happening in the world, marketing must go on. Summer is a fantastic time to take a breath and look at your marketing activities. Here's my top tips for using this time wisely...
There is no doubt that things slow down over the Summer months. This makes it the perfect time to take stock.
In my opinion, there are two key things that make great marketing possible - people and data.
Use this opportunity to check in with your staff or suppliers that make your marketing possible. Apart from identifying any training requirements or processes that need updating, taking the time to listen will help as everyone returns to the 'new normal' and enable you to support employee wellbeing.
In terms of data, I would recommend carrying out a six month review of all of your marketing analytics to see where you can improve. Perhaps now is the chance for you to analyse the behaviour of your online customers or review the return on investment of your Spring campaigns? The more data you can collect and review, the better picture you will have to move forward.
Don't forget to celebrate your successes of the past six months too - it's been a bit of a wild ride!
Test, test and test
Now is the perfect time to test things out.
Try A/B split testing your e-communications, or play around with different landing pages on your website for your Summer campaigns.
The more you test, the more you learn, the better your marketing will be for the rest of 2020.
Don't forget social media
While everyone needs a well-earned rest, don't forget to cover for holidays on your social media channels. There are lots of scheduling apps to help with this, but it's important to check in with your audiences regularly so they know you are still there throughout the Summer.
It's also a great chance to see which channels are working for you, if there's any accounts you could close and what channels you may wish to look at in the future, such as trying out Tik Tok.
If you are a charity and you haven't thought about Giving Tuesday yet, now is the time. Equally for businesses, it's time to begin outlining your Back to School promotions. It's also a good idea to look at how you will return to networking from September, as more and more companies return to the workplace. And while I hate to say it, Christmas planning needs to begin about now too!
